Schoolboy Jack Henderson has become an internet sensation after raising more than £31,000 through his website Jack Draws Anything.
The six-year-old raised the money for a hospital which is treating his younger brother by drawing more than 530 pictures in less than a year. Jack, who has appeared on national television, has gained support from various celebrities including Brian May, David Tennant and the Eurythmics's Dave Stewart - whom he drew an album cover for.
Jack set out to raise £100 for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation on behalf of his brother Noah but soon extended his target to £20,000 after demand for his drawings increased. He started selling his artwork eight months ago and has since been inundated with requests. Among the more unusual demands were for sketches of hedgehogs meeting Daleks, purple elephants and a banana on a skateboard.
In the past 231 days, the schoolboy, from Prestonpans, East Lothian has:
- Drawn 536 pictures
- Used 314 pens
- Coloured with 162 crayons
- Drawn with 96 pencils
- On 2,144 sheets of paper
Jack's mother Rose, dad Ed and brothers Noah and Toby have all been involved in assisting Jack with his huge project, bringing him 222 cups of juice, 133 biscuits and 103 apples to fuel his artistic creations.
Jack, whose favourite animal is a hedgehog, said he was "really happy" about finally finishing his sketching marathon.
"I feel a little bit shy from all the pictures and the interviews. I hope you have all enjoyed my drawings, I have raised lots of money for the Sick Kids but if you still want to donate, I would be really happy.
"Bye bye. Finished", he added.
Jackdrawsanything.com has had more than 400,000 visits from across 163 countries. His Facebook page has had six million views and nearly 6000 'likes'.
Jack's brother Noah attends Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh due to suffering breathing difficulties. Since the project began, Noah has been admitted into hospital twice.
Maureen Harrison, chief executive of the foundation, said Jack's achievement was "truly amazing".
"He has spent many hours interpreting the requests people sent in - all of them highly imaginative - and producing incredibly detailed pictures which have clearly delighted the recipients.”
The drawings have now been published in a book by Hodders Children's Books, telling the story of Jack's charity challenge.
Jack's dad Ed described how proud he and his family were of his son and expressed his thanks to everyone who had support them.
"Even when he was feeling unwell he kept going and got through his pictures. He is a typical six year old but underneath those freckles he is a superstar. We are so proud of him for all he has done and how he so maturely handles himself in the grownup situations he has found himself these last few months."
