Sea Foam Blown To Shore In Cleveleys Lancashire Coastline (VIDEO)

WATCH: Strange Sea Foam Froths Over Lancashire Resort

It looks like snow finally falling for a belated white Christmas, but the blizzard-like conditions decking the walls at the Lancashire resort of Cleveleys was actually an unusual amount of frothy sea foam.

An eyewitness video uploaded to YouTube showed cars struggling through the oceanic suds as the white spray came over the sea wall.

High winds of up to 90mph have been blowing over Northern England, blowing the sea foam, though to be caused by decomposing algae, to blow to shore

It's not the first time this has happened along the Fylde coast, near Blackpool.

A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency told the Daily Mail:

“We have taken samples of the foam as obviously if this is caused by any kind of polluting material, we need to know about it.

“Early samples are not showing any trace of detergent so we think it could be the combination of decomposing algal matter churned with the tide and the westerly wind which is causing the foam.

“We know it happens occasionally and can disappear again quite quickly so we will be looking further into what triggers it.”
