When a caring cyclist saw a homeless man rummaging through a bin on a busy London street he stopped and offered to buy him lunch – and now footage of the kind-hearted act has become a YouTube hit.
Mr Lewis Dediara’s head-mounted camera was recording when he saw the man outside a branch of Boots on Regent Street.
On the clip – which has been viewed nearly 70,000 times since it was posted last week - he stops and asks the shabbily dressed man if he’d like some food.
The cyclist spotted the homeless man outside a Boots store on Regent Street
He says: “Are you hungry sir? Tell me what you want. Go and pick whatever you like. I’ll buy it for you, get anything you want.”
Mr Dediara, 47, a telecommunications supervisor, then locks up his bike and follows the man into the Boots store, where he picks up a packet of crisps and a pint of milk.
“Is that all you want?” asks Mr Dediara.
All the man wanted was some milk and a packet of crisps
After paying for the goods, the cyclist sets off again and comments as he rides past the homeless man: “There he is, enjoying his lunch. Always help those less able than you are.”
He told the London Evening Standard that he’s been very surprised by the number of views the video has amassed, but was only doing what comes naturally to him.
He said: “I saw this man standing there - he was clearly hungry. When I saw him rooting through the bin I couldn't just leave him there.
"I come from a family where we are raised to help others when we see them suffering.
"I should have bought him more than what he wanted. Next time I see him I'll buy him a burger."
He added that he normally records his trips through the city after being knocked off his bike twice by a motorist.
