Apollo 11 Mission Recreated In HD For Moon Landing Anniversary (VIDEO)

Apollo 11 Mission Recreated In HD For Moon Landing Anniver

The Apollo 11 moon landing has been recreated in 'HD' to mark the anniversary of the 1969 milestone.

By merging the original footage with data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, GoneToPlaid were able to recreate the exact path of the Lander as piloted by Neil Armstrong. The footage was highlighted on Nasa's website to celebrate the landing.

The true difficulty of the mission becomes almost disturbingly clear in the footage. A landscape familiar in old film as a blurry mass of indistinct craters is marked with dozens of deep holes and rocky ridges.

To mark the 43-year anniversary of the July 20, 1969, landing, Nasa also reposted an HD 'remake' of the original moonlanding.

Originally made in 2009, the footage brings the event to new life.

It was made with the help of a tape recorded at Nasa's Sydney, Australia, video switching center, original broadcast tapes from the CBS News Archive and kinescopes found in film vaults that had not been seen in 36 years.

Take a look at the landing footage above, and the HD broadcast, below.
