Michael Douglas Pictured On Set Of 'Behind The Candelabra' As Pianist Liberace (PICTURES)

FIRST LOOK: Michael Douglas As Liberace

Michael Douglas has been snapped on set of Behind The Candelabra, playing the role of American pianist Liberace alongside Matt Damon.

Douglas is barely recognisable as Liberace, one of music's biggest stars in the 50s and 60s who lived a flamboyant and rich lifestyle. Damon looks youthful with blonde highlights during a scene where the pair head out to buy a car.

Behind The Candelabra

Damon plays the role of Scott Thorson, the pianist's alleged lover who is also 39 years his junior. The pair met in 1977 when Torson was just 18, and they split in 1982.

Since the split Thorson has filed a $113million lawsuit against Liberace and written a book about his experiences.

Throughout his career Liberace publicly denied his homosexuality and tragically died of AIDS in 1987.

The HBO film is directed by Steven Soberbergh, who is known for his work on the Ocean's Eleven franchise, We Need To Talk About Kevin and Contagion.
