Prince Harry was the primary target of an attack on Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, senior Taliban sources have said.
The prince, who turns 28 on Saturday, was confirmed to be at the base during an attack on Friday night that saw two US Marines and 18 insurgents killed.
It's understood that one Taliban fighter was captured. He will be interrogated by ISAF but is currently being treated in hospital.
Prince Harry was confirmed to be in Camp Bastion during the attack, but was not near harm
Harry, who is on a four-month tour in the war-torn country, was not in any danger during the Taliban attack on the base, Nato told news agency Reuters.
Robert Fox, Evening Standard defence correspondent, told Sky News that Camp Bastion, the main base for all coalition operations, is "about the size of Reading".
The attack consisted of small arms fire, mortar rounds and rockets. There have been no reported British casualties.
A Taliban spokesperson told the BBC that the attack was in response to a recently-released American film said to mock Islam, which has sparked protests and the storming of embassies across the Middle East, which resulted in the death of US ambassador Chris Stevens.
However, some experts have argued that an assault like this would have taken months to plan.
Prince Harry, who goes by Captain Wales in the Army, is in Afghanistan to fly Apache attack helicopters. His previous tour in Afghanistan was cut short after his location was leaked by international media.
