A petition has been launched in America calling for the White House to build a Death Star.
More than 1,000 American citizens have demanded the inter-stellar weapon of unimaginable destructive power be built in the name of national security.
The laser -- which theoretically would be capable of destroying a planet but which would also have a small, vital flaw liable to being exploited by a farm worker in a banged-up X-wing -- would start construction "by 2016" if the petition were to be honoured.
If another 24,000 people sign the petition before 14 December an official could be forced to at least consider building it.
It might sound ridiculous - but since it was revealed last week that the US once considered blowing up the Moon during the Cold War, nothing is off the table.
The petition reads in full:
"Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.
By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense."
Earlier this year it was calculated that the Death Star would cost more than £541 trillion just for the raw materials - or 13,000 times the gross domestic product of the Earth.
However there are early signs that the petition may not be honoured.
Several names turn up multiple times, including the mysterious "Vader. D" who is listed three times and reported as living in Seattle, Burlington, North Carolina, and Canyon Country, California.
