Roy Hodgson has expressed his annoyance at being asked about a possible England recall for Rio Ferdinand.
Ferdinand was harshly overlooked for the Euro 2012 squad in favour of John Terry, amid rumours Hodgson was uncomfortable selecting both when Terry was due to face a charge of racially abusing his brother Anton.
Terry retired from international football in September, citing his position as "untenable" just four days before the Football Association found him guilty of calling Anton Ferdinand a "f*****g black c**t".
Ferdinand however was overlooked again for this week's friendly against Brazil despite centre-back emerging as a problem position for Hodgson.
Hodgson is vexed by the Ferdinand issue
"It seems to me all I ever do is answer questions about Rio," the BBC quoted Hodgson as saying.
"I am not prepared, every time we play, to keep revisiting something which I have revisited at every single press conference for the last 10 months.
"I don't know how many more times I have to say it. You can write what you want to write.
At the FA's 150th anniversary ceremony last month journalists were forbidden from asking Hodgson questions about squad selection as the Ferdinand issue continues to be pertinent.
FA chairman David Bernstein described Hodgson's omission of Ferdinand as a "historical, extraneous issue" during Euro 2012 after Hodgson called up one cap rookie Martin Kelly to replace the injured Gary Cahill.
Ferdinand has not played for England since June 2011
Hodgson maintained Ferdinand's absence was due to "football reasons" but after Kelly's promotion Ferdinand tweeted: "What reasons?????!!!"
It has been suggested Ferdinand's age is why he has not returned to the England fold however the inclusion of 30-somethings Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard is a clear contradiction. Ferdinand has also arguably been the best English central defender in the Premier League this season.
Hodgson said when he announced the Euros squad: "Rio has only played once for England in the last year. It was purely a footballing decision and a very hard phone call to make."
Steven Gerrard, appointed captain "on merit", had played just 33 minutess for England in 19 months at the time of that quote.
Manchester United defender Ferdinand has not played for his country since the June 2011 Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland but said this week he would "love" to play for England again.
He has won 81 caps with England and played at two World Cups for the Three Lions.
