We see a lot of images and video captured by Nasa's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) but nothing quite like this.
Over a 38-hour period at the beginning of June the SDO filmed multiple 'sun tornadoes' as they danced across the solar surface before combining in the end into one giant filament of fire.
The effect is actually plasma spinning in the Sun's magnetic field and gives them a snake charmer quality as they move back and forth.

The creepy music just adds to the almost medieval image of apocalyptic inferno.
