EMMY AWARDS 2013: 'The Hour' Writer Abi Morgan Is The Only British Winner

EMMY AWARDS 2013: And The Only British Winner Is...

With 'Breaking Bad', 'Homeland' and 'Modern Family' sharing the glory at this year's Emmy Awards, many British nominees in the top categories were forced to leave the ceremony empty-handed.

'The Hour' starring Dominic West was the Emmy Awards 2013 only British winner in a leading category

All except one.

Abi Morgan scooped a gong for Best Writing in a Mini-Series or Movie, for her work on nostalgic BBC drama 'The Hour' - starring Dominic West, Romola Garai and Ben Whishaw, which was cancelled in the UK after its second series.

Abi Morgan was a surprise winner at this year's Awards

Better-known faces like Damian Lewis and Hugh Bonneville lost out to actor Jeff Daniels ('The Newroom') in the Best Actor in a Drama category - the biggest upset of the night with 'Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston the stand-out favourite - and 'Sherlock' star Benedict Cumberbatch was beaten by the firm favourite in the Best Actor In a Movie or Mini-Series category, Michael Douglas for his turn as Liberace in 'Behind the Candelabra'.
