Mount Etna Erupts In Spectacular Style (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

WATCH: Spectacular Images Of Mount Etna Eruption

One of the world's most active volcanoes is at it again - and with stunning results.

Photographers captured Mount Etna as spectacular eruptions combined with lava flows to light up the night sky over Sicily.

The eruption, which began on Sunday, followed two weeks of small ash explosions and although bad weather hampered initial views, once it improved the sights were stunning as these images show.

Media reports have confirmed there has been little disruption to the island although airspace above Catania airport was briefly closed on Saturday.

Etna is Europe's most active volcano but eruptions are few and far between with the last major event in 1992. However, local residents - 25% of the island's population live on the slopes of the mountain - may be keeping a closer eye on their neighbour after a few smaller eruptions earlier this year.
