A total-immersion, virtual reality headset designed to projected HD images directly onto your retina has hit its Kickstarter funding target in just a few hours.
The Avegant Glyph is intended as a competitor to the upcoming Oculus Rift and other VR headsets, but employs all-new tech to deliver an image it says is crisper and cleaner than any screen.
With 28 days to go in its fundraising drive the Glyph has raised $452,977 - almost double its original target of $250,000.
It is not thought the headset will be available until much later in 2014 or 2015, but fans are clearly willing to embrace the future as quickly as possible, with many pledging $500 in order to get their own prototype unit ahead of its general release.
The pitch for the headset says:
"Experience stark, vivid images like nothing you've ever seen combined with premium audio in a unique flip down form factor."
