Ski ballet - later known by the much hipper term 'acroski' - was a competitive sport from the late 1960s until the year 2000. And as you can see from this 1985 clip unearthed by Twenty Two Words, it was a wonderful, camp mixture of figure skating and, well, skiiing. Imagine Robin Cousins with long poles and you're halfway there.
Sadly, despite twice being a demonstration sport at the Winter Olympics, ski ballet never did become an Olympic event. And we're sure that makes Vladimir Putin very happy indeed...
