Cher Advises Eurovision 2014 Winner Conchita Wurst: 'You Deserve A Lovelier Name And Wig'

What Was Cher's Advice For Conchita?

Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst has received a bit of friendly advice on Twitter from her fairy godmother… Cher.

Conchita - the bearded alter-ego of drag performer Thomas Neuwirth - dazzled viewers watching this year’s Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night with her song ‘Rise Like A Phoenix’, scooping over 250 points for Austria.

Following Conchita’s big win, the Twittersphere exploded with comments about the controversial performance, including a string of tweets from one of the biggest divas around, Cher.

Cher, who is known for her ‘erratic’ tweets, had a lot to say about the glamorous performer, praising her for her bravery and “guts”.

She wrote:

The superstar did have some constructive criticism for Conchita, though, saying she should get a better wig and deserved “a lovelier name” than ‘Wurst’, a reference to the Australian idiom “Es ist mir Wurst”, which roughly translated means ‘I don’t care’ or, literally, ‘it’s all sausage to me’.

However, Cher was quick to state that she didn’t mean any offence to the Eurovision winner with her tweets, adding: “This is NOT SHADE.”

Let’s face it, though, if anyone knows a thing or two about how to look fabulous in a wig, it's Cher, as shown in the photos from her ‘Closer To The Truth’ tour, which saw her rocking a string of colourful lace-fronts while wearing not very much else.

Meanwhile, although Cher might count herself among Conchita’s fans, certain politicians were less than impressed with her Eurovision win, with Russian ultranationalist MP Vladimir Zhirnovsky complaining: “It has turned wild. There are no more men or women in Europe, just 'it'.”
