Nasa has discovered a crashed Cold War bomber 'frozen in time' since 1947.
The B-29 Superfortress plane ('Kee Bird') was lost on a top secret mission during the Cold War.
But the plane ran into trouble after running into bad weather and was forced to make an emergency landing close to the North Pole. Amazingly the 11-strong crew was eventually rescued, but the plane itself was lost.
Forty years later, a test pilot named Darryl Greenamyer returned to the plane and tried to restore it, but the plane caught fire and the project was ditched.
Now Nasa has discovered new images of the plane thanks to its IceBridge mission, which began in 2009 and is dedicated to monitoring glaciers and ice sheets for changes and anomalies.
The picture was taken by Nasa's P-3 Orion airplane on May 1.
"When you spend eight hours a day, five days a week staring at a blinding white ice sheet, something interesting to look at comes as a rather welcome sight," John Sonntag, a researcher for Nasa's Wallop Flight Facility.
