A jealous and spurned man is accused of taking horrific revenge on his ex by killing her new boyfriend and eating his heart with a knife and fork.
Horrified neighbours were alerted to the incident in Gugulethu, in the Cape Town area of South Africa, by a distraught man who had witnessed the attack.
One said: "When we got there the man kept muttering 'I am the king' and declaring his undying love for the woman.
"He then cut the heart out and ate it before the police came and took him away."
The victim, Mbuyiselo Manona, 62, had been stabbed in the chest and neck and bitten on the face by the unnamed Zimbabwean suspect.
Another witness said: "The whole situation was crazy. We were shouting at him to stop, but he did not listen," one neighbour said.
"Even when the police got here... the guys were scared to go in. They had to call for back-up.
"You can't really blame them - how do you go into a room with someone dripping another person's blood out of his mouth?"
The girlfriend, Nomonde Soloshe, is said to be in a state of shock.
Tragically it is not the first time she has been embroiled in a fatal love triangle. In 1996 her husband was murdered by her alleged lover.
Western Cape police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said they had been alerted at 22:30 on Tuesday.
He added: "On the scene they found a suspect, a Zimbabwean, eating the heart of a human with a knife and fork.
"[The police] were informed that the victim had been stabbed on the left side of his chest and in his neck, and had a bite mark on the right side of his face."
