A rogue cow which plunged into the waters of Aberdeen Harbour has been destroyed after efforts to rescue it failed.
The heifer broke free as it was being unloaded from a ferry at around 8.30am.
It ended up swimming across the main shipping channel and disrupting operations for much of the morning, the Evening Express writes.
A moo-ving sight: The cow clambers onto the slipway
The cow was coaxed out of the deep water by volunteers aboard a lifeboat, but was shot dead when they were unable to retrieve it from the slipway.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We assisted with the recovery of the animal which unfortunately had to be humanely destroyed on the advice of the vet.
“Destruction of the animal was the last resort. Public safety and animal welfare were considered after all other efforts to restrain the animal were unsuccessful.”
Freedom or nothing: When rescue efforts failed, the animal was 'destroyed'
