'Gone Girl' Trailer: Ben Affleck Stars Opposite Rosamund Pike In New Film Adaptation Of Gillian Flynn's Novel (VIDEO)

WATCH: 'Gone Girl' Trailer Sets Mood For Creepy Thriller

Lovers of the novel ‘Gone Girl’ - which was massively praised by critics and has sold over two million copies since its release in 2012 - have got a brand new trailer for upcoming film adaptation to sink their teeth into.

The David Fincher film stars Ben Affleck in the leading role of Nick Dunne, who is shocked to discover that his wife Amy - played by Rosamund Pike - has mysteriously vanished… then he quickly becomes a suspect in her disappearance.

With a number of twists and turns along the way, ‘Gone Girl’ looks set to become one of the smash hits of 2014 when it’s released in October, and the newly released trailer suggests that it will be every bit as shocking and suspenseful as the book.

Although a teaser featuring a montage of clips from the film set against a chilling musical accompaniment has already been released, this trailer for the forthcoming thriller really gives viewers a sense of what they can expect when ‘Gone Girl’ hits cinemas later this year.

Opening with the line, “Nick Dunne, you’re probably the most hated man in America right now, did you kill your wife?”, the trailer sets the dark tone for the film, which is interspersed with extracts from Amy’s diary which reveal she’s grown fearful of her husband.

Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry and Emily Ratajkowski - who rose to prominence dancing in Robin Thicke’s controversial ‘Blurred Lines’ music video - also appear in the film.

‘Gone Girl’ is due to hit UK cinemas on 3 October.
