Glasgow's Commonwealth Games began with a bang when an impressive Opening Ceremony won plaudits for its warmth and good humour.

Stars of the show were the music, the dogs and actor John Barrowman, whose 'Glasgow kiss' gave a strong rebuke to the many Commonwealth countries with anti-gay laws.
