MIT has released footage showing its ATLAS robot dragging an enormous metal frame as if it were made from paper.
The robot in question is called ATLAS and it was built by robotics company Boston Dynamics for the DARPA Robotics Challenge.
ATLAS was then given out to various institutes and companies with the intention being that each company would develop it for a different purpose, ultimately creating a better robot.
Well MIT has been working on turning ATLAS into a labourer, or at least giving it the ability to carry heavy objects while walking.
OK so the video isn't exactly iRobot but this is a major step forward (literally) for the team who have been trying to juggle the complexities of making a robot walk while still dragging a weighted object in one hand.
DARPA's hope is that eventually a finalised version of ATLAS can be deployed in emergency situations either as a firefighter, or as a rescue worker.
