Hundreds Of Students To Stand Up To Cancer In Their Underwear With #UndieRun

Why Are Hundreds Of Students Preparing To Take To The Streets In Their Underwear?

Hundreds of students from universities across the UK are preparing to take to the streets in their underwear - all in aid of raising money for charity.

Students from 32 universities in England, Wales and Scotland are taking part in the nationwide "Undie Run" in aid of Stand Up To Cancer, which will take place between 17 and 29 October and will see students running through the streets in just their underwear.

This will be the first year that the event will take place and it is hoped that it will grow and raise millions of pounds in future years. Each university has been set the target of raising £5,000 and donation money will go to annual fundraising campaign Stand Up To Cancer.

Claire Rowney, director of Stand Up To Cancer, said: "The student led event truly captures the spirit of Stand Up To Cancer and speaks to youth audiences across the country. We have no doubt that the students of Britain will rise to the challenge, strip down to their smalls and run in their undies to Stand Up To Cancer."

Tasha Kleeman, who is organizing Edinburgh University’s Undie Run, told The Huffington Post UK: "Although the concept of running in underwear can be a difficult one to sell, people have been really enthusiastic. I'm aiming to get at least 100 runners, and hopefully many more.

"All of our lives are touched by cancer in some way, and it's amazing that students across the country are being given an opportunity to Stand Up To Cancer in their own way, and to hopefully make a big difference.

"Students are all too often labelled as apathetic, lazy and uncharitable, and this is a great opportunity to prove that wrong. Running in underwear may seem like a trivial way to achieve this, but in fact, the Undie Run allows students to get out of their comfort zone to raise a lot of money for charity, which essentially is what fundraising is all about."

Students can register for the Undie Run at their university here.
