‘EastEnders’ executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has promised a summer of explosive storylines on the soap, insisting that there will be some “very big developments and twists” in the love square plot.
He has also revealed that new arrival Gavin Sullivan - who is the estranged husband of recent returnee Kathy Beale - will be an “‘EastEnders’ villain like no other”.
Speaking at a press event for the soap, he said: "He is going to be modern, complex and he will have a little foot in the past and a foot in the present. You will learn more about him later."
Kathy and Gavin will arrive in Walford later this year
Dominic also explained that the storyline between Paul Coker and Ben Mitchell will also come to the forefront, as the new arrival helps the troubled Mitchell come to terms with his sexuality, while Vincent Hubbard’s mother Claudette will also become a more prominent character, with more details about her relationship with Les Coker emerging.
Ben and Paul's romance will progress
The Lucy Beale plot will also be revisited, with the soap boss adding that a surprise character will be arrested, despite it being revealed earlier this year that Bobby Beale was responsible for his sister’s death.
"We rested the story a little bit and gave it a little breather, but that kicks up a notch over the summer with a big arrest that is going to take us through to September and a few old faces will return for that as well," he teased.
