Mother nature put on a spectacular show as people around the world witnessed a rare celestial event in the early hours of Monday morning.
Dubbed "supermoon" the event took place because the moon was at its closest point to the earth during its orbit.

The last time we witnessed such a phenomenal show was in 1982 and we will have to wait till 2032 for it to happen again.
People all over the world caught sight of a moon, said to be 14 percent larger than when it is furthest away from us, take centre stage over a number of well-known landmarks.
