A couple were left amazed (and a little bewildered) after cracking open an egg to find another smaller egg inside.
Chris and Jane Keast, who have 19 chickens, were having eggs for dinner and Jane thought she'd crack open an extra-large one, which she suspected was home to a double yolk.
But, after cracking it open, she was more than a little shocked to find a Russian Doll situation had taken place and there was another smaller egg inside.
Cracking stuff!
Her husband Chris told the Mirror: "I have never seen anything like it before. It was much smaller than the first egg and perfectly round.
"Instead of completely freaking out, Jane calmly cracked open the second egg, which was full of egg white and no yolk."
The unusual occurrence is called counter-peristalsis contraction, which can happen if a hen is disturbed or shocked when producing an egg.
When the hen is in the process of forming an egg in her oviduct, another oocyte – the ovum or egg cell that becomes the yolk of the egg – is released too soon and causes the phenomenon.
The hen will then lay a large, double-shelled egg.
