If you weren’t a fan of sprouts before, be prepared to fall in love with them courtesy of BBC One’s new Christmas trailer.

The TV channel have unveiled their annual festive campaign, which this year tells the story of animated character Sprout Boy.

Sprout Boy is at the centre of the action in BBC One's Christmas trailer

In emotional scenes that wouldn’t be out of place in a John Lewis advert, poor Sprout Boy is feeling pretty unloved after constantly being told by people that “nobody likes sprouts”.

That is until he comes across a cast of BBC One characters enjoying their Christmas lunch, who invite him to join them.

Peter Capaldi narrates the advert

The ad is narrated by ‘Doctor Who’ actor Peter Capaldi, and he has been turned into an animated 3D character, along with Great British Bake Off’s Mary Berry, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, ‘The Voice’ coach Will.i.am, EastEnders’ Dot Cotton, Graham Norton and drama characters Luther, Sherlock and Watson.

The BBC said the idents, which will air across the festive period, are about "bringing the nation together in their millions through its line up of Christmas schedule programming, characters and talent".

BBC One’s Christmas Day schedule features a plethora of favourites, including ‘Doctor Who’, Call The Midwife’, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, ‘EastEnders’ and ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’.
