'Marcella' fans were left on the edge of their seats on Tuesday (17 May) night, as ITV's crime-noir drama reached its gripping conclusion.

The shock scenes saw Henry Gibson revealed as the culprit, after he took best friend Matthew Neil hostage in his wine cellar, in an attempt to frame him for his crimes.

After Marcella arrived at Henry's house to find he had also stabbed her husband Jason, he admitted to the killings.

But in a shock twist, Marcella had another of her blackouts, and came round to find she had tied him up and tried to suffocate him with a bag over his head.

After realising what she had done, she gave him resuscitation, but her actions had compromised the police investigation, forcing her to find alternative evidence to hold him accountable for his crimes.

After finding bite marks on his shoulder, she was able to pin the kidnap of May Wier on him.

However, that was not the end of Marcella's troubles, as Detective Williamson's investigation of Andrew Barnes' murder uncovered the fact she had doctored the CCTV footage outside Grace Gibson's house, which revealed Marcella had moved her body.

The twists and turns set Twitter into a frenzy, with users praising the drama:

#Marcella..how did her daughter die? Who killed the taxi driver? Where's the taxi driver's brother? What was the point in the baker? FFS!😫

— ManchesterGirlProbz (@MancGirlsProbz) May 17, 2016

Also, who killed the dog and pinned him to a door? The baker, thought he was involved & what was with Grace's creepy stepdad #Marcella

— Lisa Kirkpatrick (@LKirkpatrick) May 17, 2016

What happened to the guy who was supervising Peter Cullen? Wasn't he up to dodgy stuff? AND what WAS it with the bloody keycard? #Marcella

— Rosie Watson (@Trundling17) May 17, 2016

Grace was alive when #Marcella arrived, yet Henry never acknowledged Marcella's presence. So why did she return? Why did she move the body?

— Lauren Carter Allan (@JustMeThatsIt) May 17, 2016

1. Why was M bloody in bath?
2. How/why did M move body?
3. Was stabbed baker in on it?
4. Wheres taxi man?
5. Who bagged Henry?
🤔#Marcella

‘Marcella’ has proved to be a massive hit for ITV, regularly attracting more than seven million viewers.

The drama has been penned by Swedish screenwriter Hans Rosenfeldt, who was behind Scandinavian series ‘The Bridge‘, which airs in the UK on BBC Four.
