A video series is chronicling different hijab styles throughout history.
Website MuslimGirl has released two videos so far, showing 100 years of hijabs in one minute.
Its first film reveals the myriad of hijab styles in the Middle East and how modest fashion has changed over the past century.
"For generations, it has been a powerful symbol of Muslim women’s defiance against the male gaze, colonialism and Islamophobia as we know it today," MuslimGirl said of hijab.
They also stated that they focused their first video on "the most controversial region in the world" in order to "reinsert the nuance of the hijab’s history, strength and tension into today’s fad headlines".
The site's second video, uploaded this week, spans the timeline of hijab fashion in Africa.
"Turbans and head wraps that don’t cover your neck may have become trendy, as they’re worn by many hijabi bloggers and fashionistas, but their roots are wholly African," they said.
