Sheridan Smith has returned to her leading role in the West End production of ‘Funny Girl’, after taking two months off due to stress and exhaustion.
The actress delighted audiences as she staged her theatre comeback on Friday (8 July) night as Fanny Brice.
Sheridan pulled out of her role in the musical back in May, when it was initially suggested she would take up to four weeks off to recover.
However, theatre bosses later stated that she would be away from the show for much longer, with a return date unconfirmed.
In a statement issued on Friday night, producers Sonia Friedman, David Babani and Scott Landis were pleased to welcome Sheridan back to work.
“It is currently planned that Sheridan will also play this Saturday evening (not matinee), and Monday to Saturday next week (excluding the Wednesday matinee and Thursday evening performances at which Natasha J Barnes will perform),” they said.
“From the week commencing 18 July, Sheridan is scheduled to perform Tuesday through Saturday, with Natasha playing Fanny Brice on Monday evenings.”
They added that the schedule was “subject to change”.
After her first performance back, Sheridan was mobbed by fans as she left the theatre, before heading home in a cab, where she was pictured beaming with happiness.
She was also supported by friend David Walliams on Twitter, who wrote:
