Warning: This story contains descriptions of sexual assault which some readers may find distressing
Recently uncovered footage in which Donald Trump discusses groping women has prompted thousands of women to share stories of being assaulted.
Footage from 2005 obtained by the Washington Post revealed the Republican presidential candidate describing how he “moved” on women.
Trump, who was newly married to his third wife, Melania, at the time, talks about making a pass at a married woman, saying: “I moved on her and I failed, I’ll admit it ... I did try and fuck her. I moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn’t get there. And she was married.”
Trump then talks about going after women, saying: “I am automatically attracted to beautiful women. I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss, I don’t even wait ... and when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.”
“Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”
This prompted Canadian writer Kelly Oxford to tweet calling for women to share their experiences of assault on the hashtag #NotOkay, as well as revealing her own.
Her call-out quickly went viral and she was inundated with messages.
Women shared experiences of a range of assaults, some from their childhoods.
Oxford went on to express her shock at the deluge of tweets:
