Things could be about to go from pretty bad to even worse for Channel 4, as reports are claiming that the BBC is set to launch a rival show for ‘Great British Bake Off’, featuring Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, Mary Berry and last year’s winner Nadiya Hussain.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week then you’ll know that Channel 4 purchased the rights for the show from Love Productions earlier this month, outbidding the BBC in the battle for the nation’s most-loved programme.
Sadly, they couldn’t convince hosts Mel and Sue, or judge Mary, to make the jump, which Paul Hollywood has agreed to do.
It’s now being claimed that the Beeb have big plans for the trio, with a source telling the Mirror: “We’ve got three of the fab four staying with us. We’re thrilled.
The presenters announced that they would be stepping down within hours of Channel 4’s new deal being announced, while Mary waited over a week to make her decision.
When her statement was released on Thursday (22 September), Paul confirmed his plan to stick with the show less than a hour later.
Unfortunately for him, not everyone was pleased and many ‘Bake Off’ fans took to Twitter to slam his decision.
Among them was former contestant Ruby Tandoh who had some - how should we say it? - choice words for the baker.
