‘Great British Bake Off’ fans are in for a festive treat this year, as the show is reportedly launching two new Christmas specials.
A Yuletide version of the BBC baking competition will air in the lead up to the holiday period, as a replacement for Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood’s usual ‘Christmas Masterclass’ show.
According to The Mirror, the festive special will see four legendary bakers from ‘Bake Off’ past return to have a go at making their best Christmas cakes and Yule logs.
Presenters Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, who have not previously appeared in Mary and Paul’s annual spin-off, will also be on hand to oversee proceedings.
A brand new series of ‘The Great British Bake Off’ is coming to BBC One next month, but the festive specials could be the show’s swan song on the channel.
Earlier this week, it was reported ‘Bake Off’ could move to ITV next year, as the BBC’s negotiations to renew the contract have stalled over cash.
The BBC’s current contract with Love Productions - the company that make the show - is set to expire this year, which means other channels can bid for the rights.
As well as ITV, Channel 4 and Sky are also said to be interested in trying to secure the show, which is said to have a price tag of £20 million - a spend the BBC can’t afford.
