James Martin has admitted he’s keen to land a regular presenting spot on ‘This Morning’, following his departure from ‘Saturday Kitchen’.
The TV chef is due to make his debut on the ITV daytime show on Friday (29 April), and says he’d be keen to make frequent appearances in the future, given the opportunity.
He told the Express: “I'd love to be a regular part of This Morning! It's an institution. If the producers ask me back, I'm sure I will do it. I keep thinking they've asked the wrong person.
Speaking about the shock announcement he was leaving ‘Saturday Kitchen’, James added: “The phone went crazy the minute I said I was leaving. The first thing I said yes to was ‘This Morning’, as I used to watch it as a kid.
James has also admitted he was surprised at the fanfare his ‘Saturday Kitchen’ departure received, claiming to the Daily Mail: “I said to the guys at the Beeb: ‘Oh, just put it out there, nobody will notice me leaving.’ Pfft! It was on the front page of every newspaper going.
Since stepping down from ‘Saturday Kitchen’, the show has had a host of guest presenters in James’ place, until producers decide on a permanent replacement.
Explaining his decision to quit at the time, James said: “You know, 10 years of working every weekend with the same team [is hard]... And for a chef as well you’re giving up your Fridays as well. I’ve been on an amazing journey an amazing ride. The viewers have been incredible.”
