Wednesday night’s presidential debate was the third and final chance for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to directly lock horns ahead of November’s election and there were certainly fireworks.
Trump refused to say he would accept the results of the presidential election, claimed the media is “corrupt” and accused Clinton of “a very serious crime”.
But in one tweet, JK Rowling managed to sum up the absurdity of the entire race:
She and comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar then went on to debate the merits of an egg over Trump...
At the time of writing, the tweet had been retweeted more than 30,000 times and gained more than 60,000 likes.
Rowling also pointed out a vital misunderstanding the Republican candidate seemed to have about the notion of friendship:
Her comments went down an absolute storm with other Twitter users...
Although Rowling has previously defended Trump’s right to be “offensive and bigoted” in the UK, she has also given his views short shrift.
Following the last debate, she tweeted:
Trump has claimed the US presidential election is “rigged” against him and said he may refuse to accept the result if he loses on 8 November.
Speaking during the final presidential debate with Clinton on Wednesday evening, the Republican extraordinarily refused to commit to the principle of a peaceful democratic transition of power.
“I will tell you at the time, I will keep you in suspense,” he said when asked if he would accept the outcome of the vote.
Clinton branded the comment “horrifying” and said she was “appalled” Trump would try to discredit the election process and reject the democratic decision of the American people.
