John Inverdale’s coverage of the Olympics has been one of the most talked about topics of the Games but not for reasons that he should be proud of.
After a week of visible tension between himself and co-rowing host, Steve Redgrave, the veteran presenter took his blundering court-side on Sunday during an interview with Andy Murray.
Before we get to that though, here’s a quick recap of how Inverdale’s Olympics have gone so far...
Now would seem as good a time as ever to reminisce over some of Inverdale’s previous corkers.
1) Rose-C***ed Glasses
We’ve all done it, looked back on the past through rose-tinted glasses and seen things in a slightly more positive light than may actually have happened.
But by the sounds of it, John Inverdale’s earlier years were a nightmarish mashup of nostalgia, terror and... well we’re not quite sure what.
During Radio Five Live’s coverage of the 2015 Cheltenham Festival, the BBC presenter managed to invent the phrase “rose-c***ed glasses”.
2) Tweet/Twat, What’s The Difference?
Inverdale was conversing with two-time Roland Garros champion Jim Courier at Wimbledon 2014 when talk turned to Twitter.
“Did you know the past parciple [sic] of tweeting was twat... Was twit?”
Courier couldn’t help but chuckle at Inverdale’s double fault.
3) And Possibly The Worst Of Them All...
Inverdale suggested the 2013 women’s Wimbledon champion, Marion Bartoli was “never going to be a looker”.
He made the disparaging remark on the broadcaster’s Radio 5 live programme shortly after French player Marion Bartoli defeated Germany’s Sabine Lisicki on Centre Court.
