John McDonnell warned the nation today that Theresa May was leading everyone towards a “chaotic Brexit”.

At least that is what he tried to do. Instead, during a high profile speech on the referendum result, the shadow chancellor accidentally declared: “The government is hurtling towards a chaotic breakfast.”

McDonnell said this was “damaging the economy” and would “hurt the poorest and most vulnerable most of all”.

The shadow chancellor managed to make the slip twice more during his speech, including the claim that “Tory voters don’t want a bankers’ breakfast any more than I do”.

McDonnell is of course not the first politician to get their Brexits confused with their breakfasts.

The leader of the Welsh Conservative Party dramatically the party’s conference earlier this month that the UK will make “breakfast” a success.
