Zayn Malik might want to cover his ears next week when Little Mix debut their latest single, as it sounds like the track might hit a little close to home.
The group have announced they’re performing a new track, ‘Shout Out To My Ex’, on ‘The X Factor’ on Sunday (16 October), which has been described as an “empowering, in-your-face break-up song”.
Given that the song was co-written by Little Mix themselves, it’s a fair guess that the songwriting sessions may have been a good chance for Perrie Edwards to vent after her split from Zayn last year, and the girls are pulling no punches in the lyrics.
As reported by The Sun, Perrie can be heard singing: “I hope she gettin’ better sex. Hope she ain’t fakin’ it like I did, babe.”
Ouch.
Further lyrics read: “Shout out to my ex, you’re really quite the man. You made my heart break and that made me who I am.”
Of course, it’s only fair that Perrie now tell her side of the story, after Zayn revealed that several tracks on his debut album, ‘Mind Of Mine’, describe the pair’s highly-publicised break-up.
On ‘It’s You’, for example, he’s heard singing: “She got her own reasons for talking to me, she don’t give a f*** about what I need.”
Zayn and Perrie began dating in 2012, after meeting while she was still a contestant on ‘The X Factor’, announcing their engagement a year later.
They eventually confirmed their split in 2015, and while Zayn has since started dating model Gigi Hadid, Perrie has been linked with actor Luke Pasqualino.
‘Shout Out To My Ex’ will be released on 17 October, the day after Little Mix’s ‘X Factor’ performance.
