âBBC Breakfastâ host Dan Walker has jumped to the defence of weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, after ITV rival Piers Morgan jokingly compared her to US President Donald Trump.
OK, so hereâs what happened.
On Tuesday (14 March), Carol Kirkwood was named Weather Presenter of the year at the Television And Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards, beating out Skyâs Nazaneen Ghaffar and Laura Tobin of âGood Morning Britainâ.
Suffice to say, Piers had something to say about one of his own being beaten the following morning on âGMBâ, remarking that Lauraâs loss was the win of someone who was âuniversally reviledâ, referring to Carol.
His co-host, Susanna Reid, was quick to defend her former BBC co-star, insisting Piers wasnât being âentirely trueâ to which he responded: âEveryone loves Carol. But we love you more, Laura.
âAnd you won the popular vote, you are the Hillary Clinton of this whole operation, so donât get downcast.â
And you know who that makes Carol, donât you..?
While Laura was quick to insist that Carol is âone of her very best friendsâ, it didnât take âBBC Breakfastâ star Dan Walker to have his say on Twitter.
Suggesting Piers was prone to exaggerating the success of âGMBâ, he wrote: âI donât mind you lying about your viewing figures but lay off [Carol Kirkwood]. She is queen. You are one of her subjects.â
Last month, the two clashed on Twitter after Piers took particular delight in highlighting a mistake that had been aired on âBBC Breakfastâ, which wrongly identified Dan as Charlie Stayt.
When Piers suggested Danâs employers didnât âeven know who he wasâ, he fired back: âWhy donât you concentrate on your own show? All the best, Charlie.â
âGood Morning Britainâ airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
