Charlotte Dujardin Wins Rio Games Gold In Individual Dressage, Making Her And Laura Trott Britain's Most Successful Female Olympians

Charlotte Dujardin has become Britain’s joint most successful female Olympic athlete, claiming her third gold medal for her individual dressage performance.

It puts the 31-year-old level with cyclist Laura Trott and takes Britain’s tally of gold medals at Rio to 16.

Dujardin won riding Valegro - the same horse she rode in 2012 - on an Olympic record grand prix freestyle score of 93.857 per cent, successfully defending the title she won in London four years ago.

As well as matching Trott, she also matches Richard Meade as the most successful British Olympic equestrian rider.

Dujardin’s score in Rio was comfortably higher than when she won in 2012, and the third highest of all-time behind two of her other mesmeric displays.

Dujardin was also on the team that took silver on Friday in the team dressage event.
