The Real John Lewis Is Going Through His Annual Hell With Remarkably Good Cheer

Bless.

As you sit down to watch John Lewis’s annual festive offering spare a though for... John Lewis.

Not the shop, the man actually called John Lewis and whose Twitter handle is @JohnLewis and describes himself as “computer science educator, father of four, social liberal, atheist, and not a retail store”.

You can see where this is going...

Once again he has been inundated with people both praising and slamming - in the most lewd of terms - work of which he has nothing to do with.

Here’s how his day has gone so far.

1) It was an ironic start.

I want to thank everyone for the hundreds of tweets warning me that I was about to get hundreds of tweets. They're here. @johnlewisretail

— John Lewis (@johnlewis) November 10, 2016

2) But even the real John Lewis can’t resist the lure.

I'm glad the @johnlewisretail ad was happy this year (even bouncy, you could say). I've desperately needed a smile since yesterday.

— John Lewis (@johnlewis) November 10, 2016

3) At first it appeared people had learned the lessons of previous years.

Merry Christmas once again @johnlewis!! #hisnameisashop

— Hamish (@hraarmstrong) November 10, 2016

Thank you! Merry Christmas to you! @johnlewisretail #theirnameisaperson https://t.co/OAsQrd8CLp

— John Lewis (@johnlewis) November 10, 2016

4) Just when it looked like it could be all fine...

Your advert is soppy wanky bullshit yet again. I'd of launched the dog into next Christmas if he done that to my trampoline @johnlewis

— Joe (@JoeCrippsThe3rd) November 10, 2016

I enjoy the overwhelming feelings of joy and goodness that everyone feels at this time of year! @johnlewisretail https://t.co/9uHZonaux1

— John Lewis (@johnlewis) November 10, 2016

5) And so it continued.

I'm nervous about the @Johnlewis tv ad. I don't want to watch it online but also don't want it to catch me off guard and make me an wreck.

I was nervous about the @johnlewis ad, too, until I realized it was the @johnlewisretail ad. https://t.co/3LWaTWfDGI

— John Lewis (@johnlewis) November 10, 2016

@johnlewis Great Christmas advert 👍👏🏻

— Charlie G (@charliegillno1) November 10, 2016

Thank you! The one from @johnlewisretail is good, too. https://t.co/UtrEIPHUn6

— John Lewis (@johnlewis) November 10, 2016

6) The struggle is real.

I love the new @johnlewis Christmas advert this year.
I started watching it with an ahhh and ended in giggles.... https://t.co/ufpPtHGATO

— Maison Royale (@maison_royale_) November 10, 2016

Interesting. I saw the ad, giggled, then opened twitter and ended in tears. @johnlewisretail https://t.co/rvtYgGEOxa

— John Lewis (@johnlewis) November 10, 2016

7) Then things escalated but jaded John kept his cool.

@johnlewis Hi John. How are you? We'd love to talk to you today on BBC Radio 1 if possible? Absolutely no worries if not though. Chris

— Chris Stark (@Chris_Stark) November 10, 2016

@Chris_Stark Hi Chris. Thanks for the interest, but I'm not doing interviews.

— John Lewis (@johnlewis) November 10, 2016

8) By this point John’s patience was wearing a little thin.

Wonder if @johnlewis will give me a retweet.

He's a great guy and not the retail store.

— Phil Sledge® (@Phil_Sledge) November 10, 2016

No, I will not. https://t.co/IVgujbquLv

— John Lewis (@johnlewis) November 10, 2016

9) The latest...

Why doesn't this guy either:
a) sell his @ name to John Lewis
or
b) admit he secretly loves the attention.https://t.co/dlR4aYF3lq

Is All Of The Above an option? https://t.co/ZK34kBXe6j
