93% of young people say they don't get adequate careers advice. Only a quarter are given information on apprenticeships. Just 17% are told what vocational qualifications are available to them.
Pretty shocking, right?
Meanwhile, research revealed employers take eight seconds to look at a CV in what's been dubbed the 'Tinderisation' of recruitment.
So who plugs the gap? How to 93% of our youths get from education to employment?
Last year, we launched Skills Space, in the hope of giving young people the tools and advice to make their own informed decisions about their future. Whether it's going straight into employment after school, taking up an apprenticeship or heading to university. Or hell, even taking a break from it all and going on a gap year.
But then we realised that wasn't really enough. Reading advice and information isn't quite the same as hearing it face to face. So we decided to put on a Skills Space event.
Taking place on Wednesday, we've got a plethora of employers from across the spectrum to come down to the HuffPost UK offices and chat to teenagers on what they're looking for when it comes to taking on apprenticeships.
We've got the BBC, PR firm Edelman, engineers Laing O'Rourke, TfL, Microsoft, the RAF, food and catering industry River Cottage, and the Cabinet Office talking about the Civil Service apprenticeships they offer. We've also got the wonderful City and Guilds on hand to explain the qualifications side of things.
Phew.
