Justin Bieber kept a cool head last night, in his first public appearance since he was hit with a paternity suit by an American fan.
Bieber appeared at the MTV EMA Awards in Belfast, where he accepted two prizes - for Best Male and Best Pop - and also performed an energetic medley of hits.
The world's most recognisable teenager made no reference to the rumours that have swirled around him while he was picking up his gong, but said backstage: "There's been a lot of crap on the internet lately."
Bieber's girlfriend Selena Gomez hosted the event, which was held at the city's Odyssey Arena. She also kept a smile on her face, after what must have must been a trying week for the high-profile couple. She made no reference to the rumours either, but made a point of introducing her boyfriend very lovingly, calling him "someone very dear to my heart".
Bieber had arrived in Belfast to a flurry of speculation following a US fan's claim that the pop star had made her pregnant during an encounter after a concert in LA. The girl, Mariah Yeater, is demanding the young superstar take a DNA test.
He wasn't talking to any fans on his arrival at Belfast airport, much to the distress of some youngsters who had driven through the night to see him, but later in the day, he sent pizza out to feed the hordes of people waiting around his hotel.
Other artists on stage at the event included Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Jessie J, Coldplay and LMFAO. Snow Patrol at the nearby City Hall, and Red Hot Chili Peppers in a much-anticipated performance at the historic Ulster Hall.
