A 40-year-old man has died after becoming trapped under a tram in Manchester city centre, it has been reported.
According to the BBC the man fell through the gap between a platform and a tram in St Peter's Square, close to the city's town hall.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire Service told the corporation: "Fire crews from Manchester Central and Moss Side Fire Stations attended a collision involving a Metrolink tram and a 40-year-old man at St Peter's Square Metrolink Station.

"The man was trapped at chest height between the platform and the tram and was released by firefighters.
"Sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics."
