A dramatic video has captured the moment a killer whale attacked a shark in waters off New Zealand.
The orca was filmed apparently "herding" the sharks out to sea, where they were attacked by more killer whales.
New Zealand media reported that the sharks were attacked at Blue Cliffs beach near to Tuatapere in Southland in what was described as a "feeding frenzy".
One bloodied shark washed up on the shore with a bite mark on its snout.
Local resident Peter Robertson told Stuff.co.nz that he had never seen orcas attacking sharks before.
"It would appear the whales were fighting the sharks," he told Stuff. "The sharks were coming ashore because they didn't want to be in the water."
However Clinton Duffy New Zealand Department of Conservation Marine Scientist, said that it was not unusual for killer whales to attack sharks.
