Dancing On Ice: Chesney Hawkes' Ankle Injury May Force Him To Drop Out Of Launch Show

Over Already For Chesney?

Former pop star Chesney Hawkes may be forced to drop out of this weekend's Dancing On Ice launch due to an ankle injury.

One and Only one-hit-wonder Chesney missed this morning's press conference as he was resting his ankle and it is thought he may have to withdraw from the competition completely.

The 40-year-old star had been hoping to glide onto the ice with bags of enthusiasm, saying: "I'm throwing myself into it 100 per cent, well, as much as I can with three jobs and three kids."

Chesney was due to dance with professional skater Jodeyne Higgins and had hoped he wouldn't "do a 'Todd Carty'" during the show.

Former Dancing on Ice contestant Todd, who played Mark Fowler in television soap EastEnders, was a made laughing stock after he failed to grasp the basics on the ice and at one point in the series involuntary lost control and flew off the set mid-dance.

Chesney said: "I guess I'm dreading doing a 'Todd Carty' really and not being ready technically. I just want to be comfortable and being able to do the steps second nature. It's when you think too much is when it all goes wrong."

He continues: "The fact is we're all out of our comfort zone here, we're not professional skaters. We're all going to give it our all and our best, and if our best is not up to their standards, I'm sure we'll get judged accordingly and I'm quite happy to take anything. Plus I'll give as much as I get."

Dancing on Ice launches on Sunday January 8th at 6.30pm on ITV1.
