Allison Batson, Nurse, Donates Kidney To Patient Clay Taber (VIDEO)

Nurse Donates Kidney To Patient She Barely Knew

A big-hearted nurse has donated a kidney to a hospital patient she had known for just six weeks

Transplant nurse Allison Batson, 48, met Clay Taber while he was being treated at Atlanta’s Emory Hospital.

The 23-year-old’s kidneys had failed after he had been diagnosed with Goodpasture’s Syndrome, which affects the immune system and creates an antibody which attacks the lungs and kidneys.

Ms Batson, whose father had died of liver disease in 1995, told ABC news: “It hit close to home because I have kids between the ages of 16 and 27. I thought it wasn’t fair.”

The pair and their families became close and after Taber’s mother found she was not a suitable match, Ms Batson stepped up.

She said: “I was excited and I wasn’t afraid at all. I trust our program and our surgeons and I’ve seen amazing outcomes.”

Taber says he has been left overwhelmed by the gesture.

He told FoxNews: “I was very emotional. It’s been a long year-and-a-half. I know there are a lot of other people out there on dialysis and with kidney failure worse than me.

“The fact that Allison would do this – after no longer than six weeks knowing me – was very special. It made me feel very blessed.”

The pair are doing well after the transplant six weeks ago and Taber is preparing to tie the knot with his girlfriend.
