A 39-year-old man who admitted stabbing his mother to death because she didn’t buy him tickets for an upcoming Avril Lavigne concert has been jailed for 40 years.
Robert Lyons told Chicago police he killed Linda Bolek, 61, in a fit of rage after she refused to arrange tickets for him in 2008. Lyons, who had been receiving treatment for bipolar disorder, said he had not meant to kill his mother.
Lyons, who was found guilty of first-degree murder in September 2011 after a six-day trial, bludgeoned her with a cognac bottle and stabbed her nine times in the back.
He also poured chemicals on her body before fleeing the scene, the Sun reported.
Bolek’s twin sister said the slain woman had tried to help her son, who had struggled with psychological and anger issues since he was a teenager.
