The Apprentice 2012: Bilyana Apostolova 'You're Fired' Interview

FIRED INTERVIEW: 'I Thought I Was Staying'

Bulgaria-born Bilyana Apostolova has become the first candidate to be fired from The Apprentice series eight.

The 25-year-old risk analyst, who was keen to hammer home how she got herself "from a Communist block of flats in Bulgaria to the top of a skyscraper in the heart of the City of London,” made few friends in the first episode of the BBC show.

Lord Sugar was curious to find out why, but when Bilyana tried to defend herself in the boardroom, he told her, "I don't want to listen to your sob story." The insistent business lady continued to talk over the tycoon, ultimately leading to her demise.

When did you know it had gone wrong?

After I got fired. I thought until the last moment I had a chance, I expected Lord Sugar to turn around and say, "OK stop talking, you're staying."

Who do you think is to blame for your firing?

I didn't do myself any favours when I wouldn't stop talking. I also think Gabriella brought me back for the wrong reasons, she said I caused them to waste time but I didn't actually want to go to the zoo in the first place, I'm not sure if that was clear in the show.

What was your best moment from The Apprentice?

It took me an hour to draw a penguin. It was part of the discussion over the design for the products and I can't even draw a straight line, that was very fun. And in hindsight the wasting-time saga was quite funny, there wasn't much logical thinking.

What did you think of Lord Sugar and his aides Nick and Karren?

It's such a big regret that I didn't speak to Karren. Even her presence is just phenomenal, but I didn't get to exchange a single word with her. And Nick wasn't around much either, so I didn't think it was very fair that he could give feedback about me. Lord Sugar is what you see is what you get, once something has gone wrong, there is no going back with him.

What will you do now?

I'm working with successful British entrepreneurs at the moment, helping them with their finance and banking needs. However, my far-fetched dream would be to bring the Apprentice to Bulgaria as I think it's done so much for entrepreneurs in Britain and would be great for the country.

Who do you want to win The Apprentice 2012?

I hope Gabriella or Katie wins so it proves I wasn't taken out by real contenders, that will slightly ease the pain of being fired in the first episode.
