Stuart Pearce For England, Gianfranco Zola For Chelsea And More... (THURSDAY TRANSFER AND GOSSIP)

Thursday Transfer And Gossip

Pushing three months, and the FA still seem to be rather nonplussed about giving England some stability ahead of Euro 2012. And why would they? Because Stuart Pearce is in the hot seat on an interim basis, and Psycho seems to like it so much he is considering it very much full-time.

The Independent report he is ringing club managers to enquire about their fitness and form (surely he can judge on the latter?) ahead of the Euros while, Harry Redknapp, like a gremlin, is being kept in the dark. That without-a-win-in-five can't have helped.

Credit to the FA though, they've put the technical director role at the top of their list of priorities. The Daily Express claims West Brom's Dan Ashworth is the shock inclusion on the list of candidates to become the man to shape the future of English football at its National Football Centre in Burton, St George's Park.

Over to Alan Partridge's favourite, and The Daily Mail run with Chelsea reportedly making a fresh approach for Blues hero Gianfranco Zola to join the club's backroom staff.

Zero-to-hero Salomon Kalou (or Kalousebio, according to The Sun) meanwhile revealed after his matchwinning goal against Benfica how previous manager Andre Villas-Boas froze him out of the squad because he stalled on a new contract. As well-timed as his finish on Tuesday.

The Daily Mirror run with Gerard Houllier, who knows all about not winning the league at Liverpool, warning Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish he will be considered a failure if he doesn't guide the club to league number 19. The Reds are seventh and not even in the Champions League, so one step forward at a time would be a more realistic target.

Another seasoned pretender has piped up too. The Mirror mention Rafael Benitez has advised Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini to ignore Sir Alex Ferguson's attempts to get in his head. Benitez knows all about that, and that's a fact.

Ask and you shall receive. Well that certainly seems to be Arsene Wenger's intentions, since only yesterday Marouane Chamakh was touted for a summer exit from north London, and now old club Bordeaux have emerged as potential suitors, according to the Mirror again. Serie A side Fiorentina and, curiously, money-laden Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested.

Milos Krasic, Juventus' perennially benched midfielder, admitted last week it was a mistake not to join Tottenham on loan in the January transfer window, and talkSPORT say he may still fulfil his wish. Chelsea are also said to be interested, which is a great vote of conference for the next manager.

Staying with Spurs and TS, Emmanuel Adebayor may not be making a permanent move to north London when his loan ends with the club in May. The 28-year-old has scored just 12 goals this season and his inconsistency, coupled with his six-figure-a-week wages are purportedly the insurmountable stumbling blocks.

And Lionel Messi has signed for French second-tier side Angers SCO. Calm yourselves, it's the Cameroon Under-17 international, not Barcelona's misfiring-in-Milan forward, say The Sun.
