Yesterday, there was the hot dog crust pizza. Today, it's Burger King's new bacon sundae.
Spotted in a branch in Nashville, Tennessee, this new dessert combines the glorious taste of bacon with the equally glorious taste of ice cream. But do they work together?
The sundae comprises vanilla ice cream and rashers of salty bacon and is slathered in fudge sauce. Never mind the taste, the calorie count is just as, if not more, worrying.
Burger King's latest dessert appears to be one of a number of new releases for the fast food company, which include sweet potato fries, Caesar salads and strawberry and banana smoothies.
If, however, ice cream and bacon doesn't seem like an odd combination, it's possibly because ingenious TV chef Heston Blumenthal notoriously devised an egg and bacon ice cream, which appears on the tasting menu for his Fat Duck restaurant in Bray.
Stateside, the idea was originally pioneered by another fast food chain, Denny's, with their limited run of maple bacon sundaes a few years before Burger King revealed their version this year.
According to the Gothamist, the sundae has only appeared in Nashville so far, with no known plans to extend the dessert across the rest of the country and – we can only hope – the rest of the world.
