Bradley Wiggins Or Sir Steve Redgrave: Who's The Greatest Olympian? (PICTURES, POLL)

Wiggins Or Redgrave: Who's The Greatest Olympian?

He's been congratulated by the prime minister, inspired sideburns across the land and heralded as Britain's greatest Olympic athlete - by Sir Steve Redgrave.

Bradley Wiggins' Wednesday win does make him Britain's most decorated Olympian - Wiggins has seven medals - one clear of rower Sir Steve's six, although the rowing champion still holds more gold medals.

Speaking about the cyclist's achievements on the BBC on Thursday morning, Sir Steve said: "He's got more medals than me."

"He's a great guy, absolutely outstanding achievement and deserves all he gets. I think he's going to get a lot more honours before the year is over."

Tweeters piked up on the rowing champion's grace, writing that the medal winner was gracious in celebrating Wiggins.

In a later interview Redgrave appeared to don Wiggins style sideburns, in another nod to the mod.

But who do you think is Britain's best Olympian? Sir Steve, with five golds and one silver, or Wiggins, with four gold, one silver and two bronze. Vote in our poll below:
